Shaq's back home, for now

Back home from Hargrave Military Academy for Thanksgiving break, Shaq Lawson took his official visit to Clemson this weekend.

The defensive end was on campus with fellow Hargrave placement Cordrea Tankersley, who was also there officially.

Lawson filled CUTigers in on a few of the details from their weekend.

"It was different because we had dinner with coach [Marion ] Hobby and coach [Charlie Harbison] Friday night. Then, Saturday night, we had dinner with coach [Dabo] Swinney, Cheese and Hobby," Lawson said.

What was the message from the Clemson coaches?

"Coach Hobby and coach Swinney told me to get ready, because Malliciah [Goodman] is leaving and there's a chance of playing next year."

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive end is no stranger to Death Valley -- he didn't miss many games while attending Daniel High School.

"It was loud in the stadium. It was a long game, because each team kept scoring. It was a high scoring game, too," Lawson said.

Things are going well for him back at Hargrave. Football season is done, so Lawson's days aren't as busy.

"My grades, I've got all B's right now. We're finished up with football, so I'm just working out right now," he said.

As long as Lawson maintains his current grades, or makes at least two A's, he'll be ready to enroll at Clemson in January.

He finished the post-graduate season at Hargrave with 64 tackles, 13 sacks, 21 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles.

Martin Aiken served as Lawson's host during his official visit.
