Williams pledges to Indiana

Troy Williams, Scout.com's No. 42 prospect, is the latest out of state recruit to pick the Hoosiers. He offered up a pledge on Sunday.

Last year Tom Crean mined the state of Indiana for his top three recruits.

This go around, Crean and his staff left the state and reeled in three four-star recruits outside of Indiana. Talented post prospect Luke Fischer committed in January. Then do-it-all guard Stanford Robinson pledged in May.

On Sunday, the Hoosiers added Virginia native Troy Williams.

"I think he just comfortable on his visit," Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill coach Steve Smith told Scout.com. "He watched them practice twice and he thought he fit in with their style of play. He really liked Tom Crean.

"He wanted to play for him and felt like he could develop him as a player," Smith added. "Those were the reasons he went with Indiana."

Williams picked Indiana over strong interest from North Carolina, Alabama and Arkansas.

Williams took an official visit to Indiana for their Hoosier Hysteria event the weekend of October 20th. Just a few days later, Tom Crean showed up to watch him at the prestigious Oak Hill/Hargrave scrimmage.

Prior to his trip to Bloomington (Ind.), Williams was planning to hold off and make his college choice after the first signing period. But his trip to Indiana changed things.

"I don't think they were first on his list when he went up there," Smith said. "I don't think he had any intentions of doing anything."

"When he came back he was like coach, ‘I really liked it,'" Smith said. "I think he talked to Boo [Williams], his mom, his aunt and he just felt that's where he wanted to go and he wanted to get it over with."

To go with the three out of state commitments, Indiana also holds pledges from local standouts Collin Hartman and Devin Davis.
